Melissa + Mike : Mini-Session

Meet Melissa + Mike!

08

I met Melissa + Mike at their adorable house for a rather unorthodox mini-session. You see, they were dreaming of a lovely springtime engagement session but wanted a few shots for their save-the-dates which had to go out ASAP, so I swung by their house for 30 short minutes for some beer (don’t worry, I didn’t drink on the job), some laughs, and a little bit of football. Limitless cuteness ensued. A good time was had by all.

The Bartley Family

Meet the Bartleys!

01

Don’t get all excited, ye so numerous blog readers; I’m not going to start working on holidays. The Bartleys are long-time friends, and so when their amazingly talented, diverse and adventurous family finally all ended up in the same city on Thanksgiving Day, I HAD to run over before my turkey dinner to snap a few photos. Unless your family consists of writers, pastors, musicians, professors, philosophers, philanthropists, and all-around amazing human beings, you’ll be hard pressed to pull me away from my mom’s pumpkin pie!

Erin + Andrew

Meet Erin + Andrew.

13

Seriously, why do all my clients look like supermodels? Am I being Punked? Ashton, this is the most elaborate, 2-year punk you’ve ever done. I mean, you’ve gone above and beyond this time. I’m sensing an Emmy in your future…

Joking aside, in addition to absolute gorgeousness, Erin + Andrew brought their spunk, relaxation, and super-hero sense of adventure to our Old Dublin engagement session. Andrew is the cousin of Jen (of Jen + Tony + Coby), so when his lovely fiancee Erin emailed me about getting together to chill out and snap some photos, I was sooooo down. Crocodile-Dundee-down-under down. Feather-pillows-on-my-king-sized-bed down. Fell-off-the-bus-on-the-first-day-of-college-in-my-Bear-in-the-Big-Blue-House-backpack down.

As we skipped around this beautiful old town, rain clouds loomed over our heads, but didn’t open up until we were hugging goodbye! Score!

Here are some of my favorite images, but don’t forget to click through the gallery to get a sense of what a finished set of images from a bodaciously awesome session with me looks like!

Libby + Mike

Meet Libby + Mike.

Libby + Mike(026of 091)

Uber-cute. And, yes, I just said “uber”. I can say that word because Libby + Mike live in German Village, a beautiful, historic district in South Columbus. I stopped by their charming house just before we headed out to the neighborhood park. Mike checked the weather on his sleek flat-screen above the fireplace (his engagement present from Libby – every boy’s dream fiancee) while Libby and I ironed out a few wedding details for their upcoming nuptials. With rain in the forecast and clouds moving in fast, we booked it down the street to Fetch Park with Sophie the Cocker Spaniel for a few “family portraits”.

Mike and Libby are fun. Laid-back. Comfortable. Easy to be around. Entertainers. They’re sophisticated without being stuffy and smart without being aloof. But what really sets them apart is the way they complete each other. I know it’s trite. I want to kick the Jerry Maguire guy for the “you complete me,” bit because it makes light of the connection I see in Libby + Mike. They’re just right for each other. That’s the simple truth of it. Libby is feisty, but Mike can crack you up with a few good dance moves (see photos for an example). Libby is one of the hardest workers I’ve ever known, but Mike is the kind of guy who never quits. They push each other, they encourage each other, and they’re building a life together, brick and mortar. It’s a beautiful thing.

By the way, it did rain on us. But Libby + Mike (uber-troopers) just rolled with it. Yet ANOTHER reason I love them. And it gave us an excuse to but out my polka-dot umbrella! Libby’s a modern bride with a brother who is an amazing photographer, so I wasn’t surprised when she requested a quick visit to an adorable turquoise building in the Short North. Creativity and funness ensued. A good time was had by all.
